Sacred Law in Secular Lands, taught by Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah and simultaneously translated by Hamza Yusuf, contains vital information that affects all Muslims living in the West and in other non-Muslim lands. Topics covered include the right to live in a non-Muslim land, dealing with the laws and customs of the land, women's education, modest dress, the right to own a home, banking and mortgages, medical issues, etc.. This 10 audio CD set consists of the first half of the course and covers a portion of the subjects aforementioned.
Shaykh Abdallah Bin Bayyah was born in Mauritania and was the son of a great scholar, Shaykh Mahfudh, (may Allah have mercy on his soul). At an early age, Shaykh Abdullah Bin Bayyah memorized most of the texts taught in Mauritania of varying subjects including the Quran, Hadith, grammar, logic, rhetoric, semantics, philology, and poetry. Presently Shaykh Abdullah is a member of several legal bodies such as the European Council of Legal Opinion and the Supreme Fiqh Council. Periodically he travels to the Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, California where he teaches courses on the Traditional Islamic Sciences. He resides in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with his family and teaches Islamic Legal Methodology, Quran, and Arabic at the King Abdal Aziz University.
Hamza Yusuf is an American Muslim scholar whose writings, lectures, and teachings on Islam are known throughout the world. He is a guest on television programs in both the US and the UK, in addition to being an influential speaker on Islamic and other contemporary issues, recieving hundreds of requests each year to speak about issues that affect Muslims and non-Muslims alike. He is also the founder and executive director of the Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, California, a non-profit center for the traditional Islamic studies.
